January 27, 2007 - Say Goodbye to Hollywood

First, let me say that I'm sorry that I've fallen behind on the blog. I promise that I'm catching up on the missing days right now. I doubt they're worth the wait!!!

Previously, on Shaun's blog, we ate at Porto's. We went back the next day to try out a few new things. They have a lot of Cuban snacks, including croquettes. Brian though this one was only potato, but it had meat in it. I ate some of the potato outside and it was great. Too bad I don't eat meat.

Don't worry, I won't starve. We got a chocolate croissant and a strawberry cheese strudel.

Those snacks were enough to sustain us during the drive back to Vegas.

When we got back, I had a small snack of some multigrain chips and hummus.

For dinner, we went to the buffet at the South "Roast," or South Point, as it is officially now known. (Formerly the South Coast. They were bought away from the "Coast" chain of casinos in town. Brian proposed that they should have renamed it the South Roast to save money on changing the sign.)

Here's my usual buffet stuff, a plate with salad and shrimp cocktail. Note! This buffet does NOT have crab legs on Saturday nights. Only Fridays. I'm a bit ashamed that I know that. But, we do go to this casino to play poker all the time.
And then, a plate o'carbs: vegetable lasagna, veggie egg roll, pizza with veggies, lo mein, broccoli, and peas and a carrot.

And dessert, I have vanilla ice cream with sprinkles, and one cream puff.

Now, as thrilling as all this food is, the big news of the night was that I got four of a kind, four aces, playing poker, and won an extra $184 jackpot! We play at the South Roast often, Brian's won 2 jackpots, and Randy's won 3! This was the first time for me! So I was so excited.

There are all these rules about winning a jackpot. One is that there has to be at least $10 in the pot. Before the flop, I had pocket aces (another requirement for the jackpot- you need to play both cards in your hand to win.) There was only me and one other guy in the hand. One ace came on the flop, but I had to be very careful not to bet too much and scare him away. He stuck with me in the end, when an ace came on the River. I nearly jumped out of my skin. Brian said it was very funny to see how excited I was to flip over and show my 4 aces! It was so awesome.

Less than an hour later, our friend Nick also got four of a kind aces and won the jackpot, but it was only $50 since I had just won it! So, now the guys all have 2 or more high hands, and I'm back in last place with my one jackpot win. My goal is to win one of the straight or royal flush jackpots now, cause those play 1 or 2 THOUSAND sometimes!
