February 24, 2007 - It's Fun to Eat like a 10-year-old!

Although it's Saturday, I had to work. Not only did I have my usual classes on Child Abuse Prevention, I'm still working on organizing office space at work so we can be ready to go on March 1. (This is all part of my new job description.) So, I was very very busy.

Ooh! An action shot! A honey wheat bagel, later enjoyed with some cream cheese. And, a mini blueberry muffin. (I eat a lot of mini things!)

For a snack, some Cheetos and a brownie bite.
And wow! For lunch/dinner, I went to my coworkers twin daughters' birthday party at Circus Circus Adventuredome!!!! How fun! The twins were adorable, and her family was really great. I had a piece of pizza and some ice cream and Shrek cake. Brian took the picture of me with the cake and ice cream, and he said we were sitting too close to frame it right. Too bad. At least you can see the cake! The vanilla ice cream is in the cup in my right hand.

Then, it's Saturday, so we went to play poker. We played till kind of late, so we ended up stopping at KFC/A&W Rootbeer for dinner. See, it says it's a real meal from KFC- chicken strips, mashed potatoes, cole slaw and a biscuit. Exactly what you want to be eating at 10pm at night.

If you ever get a chance, see if you can persuade Brian to do an impression of Dane Cook for you. He had me crying with his Dane-like rant about the fact that a KFC meal doesn't come with a drink. You really had to be there, unfortunately.

February 23, 2007 - Moving Furniture Makes You Hungry

In preparation for my move to my upstairs office, I had to rearrange furniture around the building! The movers I hired were so prompt, that I didn't even get to have breakfast, really. I ate a granola bar out of the vending machine, and a piece of V-day candy.

Granted, I didn't really have to carry anything. But, I had to clear off desks and bookshelves, move desk chairs all over, help the movers disassemble desks, etc. etc.

A slightly funny and kinda creepy anecdote- after the movers left, I noticed a cell phone was on the floor under a desk we had just relocated. I figured it belonged to the mover who got down on the floor to reassemble it. When I picked up the phone, there was a tube of lube under it. Yes, lube. I guess it fell out of his pocket since the floor was clear when we moved the desk in, and it was kinda far back under it. Go figure. We returned the cell phone, but I threw the lube away. Eww. At least it wasn't opened.

By the time I finally sat down, I was so ready for lunch. I made Brian come on a date with me to Jason's Deli. I had a California Club sandwich sans bacon. And, some of their complementary low fat ice cream.

I had to do shopping at Costco for work. I bought - with my own money, of course- this orange-y and peppery pecans. I thought Brian would love them, but I really like them too.

For dinner, Brian and I went to one of our favorite go-to places, Sweet Tomatoes. Sweet Tomatoes is a salad bar restaurant that also serves baked potatoes, a variety of soups, pasta, and a bunch of baked goods. I made a regular salad with spinach, broccoli, peas, mushrooms, squash, etc etc. It has roasted garlic dressing on it.

My other plate is some of their prepared salads: a cherry chipotle spinach salad with apples, a bite of potato salad, some cherry coleslaw (it was worth a try...), and my favorite favorite, tuna tarragon salad. And, some pickles and beets for good measure.

Then, my "bread course" as Brian says - a couple pieces of focaccia and cornbread with some honey butter. And, a little bit of shrimp bisque because I was skeptical. Not bad though, really.

And, for dessert, they brought me a freshly baked mini chocolate chip cookie, and I had a brownie. (See what I mean about work making me hungry?)

February 22, 2007 - All Mixed Up and Seeing Double

Today was a very odd day. Breakfast was coffee cakes that I got at 7-11. I remember that my grandpa used to eat these cakes with peanut butter on them. I guess I got nostalgic and bought them on a whim.

For lunch, I decided to try these spicy mock chicken patties. I put it in a wrap with some havarti cheese and a little bit of blue cheese dressing. And, I loved it. Seriously. I also had some grapes and yogurt.

Since I loved my lunch so much, I made the same thing for myself for dinner with a handful of those red pepper chips! But, I was starving later for some reason, so I had some toast with peanut butter and jelly. Why not?

And, another chocolate.

February 21, 2007 - Behold the power of sauce

For breakfast, I had cereal - Cranberry Almond Crunch was on sale.

For lunch, I had a French Bread Pizza thing. And yogurt and a couple of strawberries. And a few of these mini M&Ms from V-day.

Dinner was sauteed chicken breasts in a white wine mushroom sauce that I made all by myself. And I grew the parsley myself too. Brian turned leftover risotto in to these awesome rice cakes. And we had some peas.

And 2 more chocolates. (I want them gone already!)

February 20, 2007 - Another day off...

Wow. When I looked back at these pictures, one thing became really clear to me... I eat so much more on days that I have to work. Wait till you see the next few days...

Starbucks low fat blueberry coffee cake.

Lunch- a hummus and havarti cheese sandwich with some of these roasted red pepper and goat cheese chips. That's pretty ridiculous. They tasted like barbecue to me.

Dinner was one of these organic veggie pot pie things. I love them.

And some chocolates for dessert.

February 19, 2007 - 2 years, 7 years or "Does the pot melt?"

Today was my two year wedding anniversary, and the seven year anniversary of Brian and I being together as a couple.

Look at these pretty flowers my husband bought me.
(The chocolates are from my parents, and are pictures SOLELY because they were also on the counter. I did not eat any today.)

For breakfast, good ol' cereal.

We skipped lunch, because we knew we were going to have a smörgåsbord for dinner. We went to the movies to see Little Children, which we were too late for yesterday. We had some pretzels and cheese.
Now, the book is wonderful. But the movie, I think, tried to do too much of the plot, and altered elements of the book for no clear reason to me. The movie did feature a "very naked" Kate Winslet. So maybe that appeals to you. Or, if you want to see her doing it with this guy, go for it.

Anyways, anniversary dinner at The Melting Pot. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant. And, I LOVE it. I'm so happy Brian decided to take me there.

A young girl at the table next to ours asked her mother, quite seriously, "Does the pot melt?"

Look, they set up this cute card on our table.
We got the "Big Night Out" which is the Quattro Formaggio cheese fondue, with bread, veggies and apples for dipping. That's a Mandarin Orange Cosmopolitan.

And, I got a cherry blossom salad- greens with dried cherries and a black cherry vinaigrette.

The main course was an assortment of meats, cooked in a coq au vin broth. We had lobster, tiger shrimp, chicken breasts, ravioli, mushrooms, potatoes, and zucchini. There were also steak AND filet for Brian.

Dessert - a chocolate fondue with a bit of peanut butter inside. And, a wonderful assortment of fruit, brownies, marshmallows, and cheesecake for dipping.

February 18, 2007 - I'll Just Eat Like I'm On Vacation

To all my buddies at home, please please please come visit us so Brian and I can take you to Milo's! We just love it. The food is consistently wonderful. And they have a million beers and wines. They're very vegetarian-friendly too. They are located in Boulder City, which is closer to our condo than the Strip!

We decided to try something new: their Cheese and Crackers plate with roasted red peppers. This cheese was great. So yummy. And, Brian got the Purple Haze beer.

And for lunch, I got the Athenian- a melted Brie, avocado, and sprouts sandwich. There's also potato salad, 2 pickles, and a handful of grapes. Awesome. I just love it. I also tried Brian's sandwich, some kind of turkey thing with pepperoni on it. The bread was just great.
Brian and I tried to go to the movies, but I had the time wrong and we were 15 minutes late. We decided to stop for some ice cream before we went to Binion's to play poker with Nick. I got Rocky Road in a waffle cone.
This was an interesting experience. Let me start by explaining that Vegas was sort of out of control this weekend. We're normally overrun with tourists anyways, but this weekend was: a three day weekend, Chinese New Year, the NBA All-Star game was here, AND the 20th is Mardi Gras. So, I suspect we were more crowded than usual. So, I think that's the reason that the ice cream stand inside the Sam's Town Casino was almost out of all of their flavors. Everyone who tried to order off the list, instead of looking in the case was surprised that they were out. This caused a huge hold up at the ice cream stand. One woman was out and out rude about the situation in front of her young granddaughter. And another couple seemed so confused, ("You don't have Butter Pecan? Then what's this? Coffee? Coffee? What?") that Brian speculated they'd never had ice cream before in their lives. Getting this ice cream cone took about a half hour, maybe longer.

Then, we went to Binion's for poker. Yay. We ended up at a table with three young guys from Iowa. They said they were in town for a DJ Convention. Their names were Jeff, George, and Cornelius. Yes, Cornelius. It's funny to meet someone named Cornelius anyways, let alone a 20 something DJ from Iowa. One of the guys is a lawyer, and we had a little battle of the LSAT scores at the table. (I beat him by a few points.) At least he gave me props for passing the NY Bar- a really hard Bar, he said. The lawyer told me that he had gotten a scholarship to Cardozo for law school. His friend, Jeff, cracked me up when he said he did so well on the LSAT's that he got a scholarship to go to University of Phoenix on-line for his degree.

I'm still not clear on how one lawyer, one would-be lawyer, and a guy named Cornelius were doing in town for a DJ Convention.

Brian and I picked up Taco Bell for dinner: burrito supreme, no beef, and cheese nachos.
