Dinner at the worst oyster bar of all time in the Sunset Station casino. Their descriptions on the menu were awful and misleading, and I had to send my food back. They said it was pan roasted crab. What is was was a crab bisque that looked like it came out of a hamburger helper box. The waitress tried to get me to eat it, but I refused. Sorry I didn't document it for you. I thought I was getting whole crab! But, here is the bread, wonderful clam chowder, okay salad, and blah shrimp scampi I ate.
My father-in-law is in town, and he took us to Olives. Wow. Breads with olive tapenades.
Brian and I shared this heavenly salad of artichokes and parmesan, with a risotto cake underneath. This salad way outshined our entrees.
I had a mahimahi, with polenta, carrots, and prawns. Umm... prawns a little scary. Fish a little bland. Polenta and carrots very very good. And, I had a bite of Brian's dad's squash ravioli.
Dessert! This is the assorted cookie plate. We all shared it. I had a bite of the brownie and the fudge, but that cupcake in the back- Red Velvet Cake- had my name all over it. It was divine.
For lunch, Brian and I went to Metro Pizza. We each got a pizza and shared a salad and bread. Later, we ate leftovers and went for ice cream at Skoops, a new place around the corner. 2 scoops please!
Brian and I tried to see a movie as part of the Las Vegas Film Festival, but the show was sold out. So, naturally, we went to the buffet instead. The funny thing about the Bistro Buffet at the Palms Hotel- they offer Mediterranean/Middle Easter n /Lebanese food. This might be because of the owners', the Maloof's, heritage. For the first time, I got hummus, pita, and stuffed grape leaves from a buffet. Also, some peppery shrimp, egg rolls, pizza, mashed potatoes, veggies, and crab legs of course.
Dessert was a bit of a mix up. Everything was in a case, so you had to ask. I asked the woman for a few of the mini pastries, but she gave me all of the same kind at first. The white chocolate covered cream puff was wonderful. Smores bar and lemon bar. Those mocha things she gave me 3 of weren't that great. I gave one to Brian, and only ate half of the other one. Brian gave me his raspberry bar in exchange. I didn't get any coffee, but this buffet had an espresso/coffee machine so you could get your own.
In 2004, Tucker Shaw photographed everything he ate, from main courses to free samples.
Out of sheer curiosity, I am attempting to do the same thing... I'll be taking pictures of everything I eat in 2007 and I'll post them here. I'll include other details about the food, such as who made it, when and where I ate it, and who was with me.
You might wonder, but no, I'm not a vegetarian. However, other than white meat chicken or turkey, and fish, you're not likely to see any pictures of meat.
I don't make any promises about any of this being interesting.
I'm married and living in Henderson (a suburb of Las Vegas) with my comedian/TV personality husband, Brian, our energetic son, Nate, and my lovable and troublesome Jack Russell Terrier, Chopper. I'm officially retired from the practice of law, and now I work for Community Counseling Center. I love long car trips. I've lived in north Jersey, Queens, Tucson, and Las Vegas. I sometimes daydream about winning the Pillsbury Bake-Off or maybe the World Series of Poker. Nothing makes me happier than spending time with friends and family.
